Courage Campaign on Senate Bill 27 Vote

Statement by Dr. Paul Song, executive chairman of the California-based Courage Campaign on the failure of SB 27 in the California State Senate:

“Once again Senate Republicans proved that above all else, they will always protect the interests of the super-rich rather than those of their constituents. Not a single Senate Republican would vote to support Senate Bill 27, which would simply help Californians understand who is spending enormous sums of money to influence their vote. They give lip-service to the value of transparency, disclosure and accountability, while consistently working to undermine it. Their excuses today are just that. In 2012, the right-wing Koch Brothers attempted to spend $15 million in secret money to influence voters under false pretenses. Republicans would like nothing more than for the Koch Brothers to repeat that fraud again this year but, this time, succeed.”
