Courage Endorses Orange and Riverside County District Attorney Candidates, Says NO on Prop. H

Courage California Adds Progressive and Equity-Focused Candidates and Opposition to San Francisco Proposition to Criminal Justice Slate for 2022 California Primary Elections

A month ahead of the June 7, 2022 primary elections, Courage California fills its Criminal Justice Slate by announcing the endorsements of two district attorney candidates and opposing Proposition H in San Francisco.

  • Peter Hardin for Orange County District Attorney
  • Judge Burke Strunsky for Riverside County District Attorney
  • NO on Prop. H, oppose the recall of San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin

“With so much at stake in the June 7 election, Courage California is proud to endorse key public safety champions who are committed to working with our communities and turn around criminal justice systems that are unfair and corrupt,” said Irene Kao, Executive Director of Courage California. “Our communities deserve leaders who are willing to seek justice for everyone, hold police accountable, and fight for and govern side-by-side with us. Courage California’s endorsements of Peter Hardin and Judge Burke Strunsky underscore our confidence in them as the leaders who understand that our safety is tied to healthy communities.”

Courage California works with local and statewide partners to identify priority races, screens candidates based on their top issues, approach to passing progressive policies and tackling barriers, and record of governance and leadership.

Criminal Justice Reform slate

Public safety is a priority for communities around the state, and we know what keeps us safe: comprehensive investments in every person’s health, security, and a justice system that is fair and willing to hold everyone, including police and corporations, accountable for their actions. The most impacted communities have long demanded reforms to our economic and criminal justice systems and are leading on redefining justice to be more restorative and healing. Courage California’s Criminal Justice Reform slate of endorsements will help ensure that progress is made for the long-term health and safety of California’s communities and residents.

Peter Hardin and Judge Burke Strunsky are dedicated public servants who each bring clear visions of how to expand access to justice and end harmless cycles of violence. They understand how the current status quo has led to racial bias, mass incarceration, neglect of victims, and a lack of trust that puts our communities at greater risk, and will tackle these problems with people who are the most impacted and ignored by the current district attorneys.

San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin was elected because San Franciscans wanted a DA who would work to reimagine the criminal legal system and the harm it does to low-income communities and communities of color. The campaign to recall DA Boudin is funded and led by venture capitalists, police officer associations, real estate lobbyists, and billionaire conservatives; and relies on fear-based misinformation. Courage California supports the will of the voters – vote NO on Prop. H.

Peter Hardin, Judge Burke Strunsky, and NO on Prop. H, join Courage California’s 2022 Criminal Justice Slate, which includes Attorney General Rob Bonta, Diana Becton for Contra Costa District Attorney, Alana Mathews for Sacramento District Attorney, and Sajid Khan for Santa Clara District Attorney – all leaders who will serve all Californians, effectively and equitably.

Courage California is dedicated to supporting and electing candidates who will actively champion our issues and communities, especially in the face of corporations and special interests and the inertia of a political system that doesn’t always serve our people well.
