Courage California Applauds House Democrats for passing the Build Back Better Act
In response to The U.S. House of Representatives passing the Build Back Better Act (H.R. 5376), a social policy and climate change bill, California’s largest progressive organization, Courage California, released the following statement:Â
Irene Kao, Executive Director of Courage California, issued the following statement:
“Despite Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s failed attempt to delay and defeat the Build Back Better Act, the Biden administration and House Democrats prevailed in passing critical legislation that will help all Americans and the future of our nation by providing a path to fighting climate change and supporting the wellness of families,” said Irene Kao, Executive Director of Courage California. “As the $2 trillion Build Back Better package heads to the Senate, it is essential that we remain resolute — Congressional leaders must put the American people first and support investments in clean energy, universal preschool, national paid leave, expansion of affordable health care, and housing affordability. Through such investments, and by having corporations and the wealthy pay a fairer share of taxes, California can continue our important work towards creating a more equitable and just future.”
“California’s working families deserve to breathe clean air and drink clean water, to go to work knowing their kids are getting quality preschool education, to care for themselves or a loved one without worrying about missing pay, and to pay less for the medications they need, as will be possible with the Build Back Better Act,” said Kao. “And we deserve leadership that puts the American people first, over the will of corporations. The investments made in the Build Back Better Act — especially combined with the recently passed Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and the American Rescue Plan — signal an imperative shift in our country’s priorities and will pave the road for success to millions of Californians, particularly in Black, brown, and Indigenous, and rural communities. The Senate needs to come together and swiftly pass this historic bill, without further compromise.”
